Alley Pond Environmental Center sits on the edge of Alley Pond Park's salt marsh and woodland habitats. The center has indoor exhibits including animal ambassadors (turtles, snakes, raptors) plus outdoor trails through the marsh and forest. Free programs include nature walks, family fishing days, animal encounters, and seasonal events. Suitable for kids age 3 through teen. Located on Northern Boulevard near the Cross Island Parkway, accessible by Q12 bus or by car. The salt marsh is one of the few accessible tidal estuary ecosystems in NYC where kids can see live wildlife in their natural setting.
