About
Clay Pit Ponds is a 260-acre New York State park preserve in the southwest corner of Staten Island, with sand barrens, wetlands, ponds, and forest habitats. The Nature Interpretive Center is fully accessible and free, with hands-on exhibits on local wildlife. Kids programming includes a free weekly Tuesday playgroup at 10am exploring different nature themes, naturalist-led pond ecology walks, birdwatching, and tree and flower identification. School field trips welcome. Located on Veteran's Road West in Charleston, accessible by S74 bus or by car with free parking. Hiking trails work for kids age 4 and up.
