Freshkills Park
About
Freshkills Park is being transformed from the former Fresh Kills landfill into a 2,200-acre park — when fully complete, it will be three times the size of Central Park and the largest park developed in NYC in over 100 years. Currently open through guided tours, kayak programs, free family-friendly tours, and seasonal Discovery Days. Programs run by Freshkills Park Alliance teach kids about ecological restoration, native species, and urban planning. Free events; advance registration usually required. Located on the western side of Staten Island, accessible by car or S62 bus.
