The Urban Ecology Center at the north end of Inwood Hill Park is the local headquarters of the NYC Urban Park Rangers. Exhibits highlight local animal and insect species; rangers staff the center to answer questions and run programs. Monthly hikes through Inwood Hill Park focus on different aspects of the park's natural history — keystone species, salt marsh ecology, indigenous Lenape history. All Urban Park Rangers programs are free. Suitable for kids age 4 through teen. The park has three children's playgrounds, plus baseball, soccer, tennis, and basketball facilities for families that want to combine nature programs with active outdoor play.
