The Orchard Beach Nature Center sits on the Pelham Bay Park shoreline. The Center has been the headquarters for Urban Park Rangers' family nature programming including orienteering with maps and compasses, salt marsh walks, and birding hikes. (Note: the indoor Pelham Bay Nature Center is currently closed; outdoor ranger-led programs continue from this location.) Beyond programmed events, Orchard Beach itself is a 1.1-mile crescent of sand on Long Island Sound — free public beach with playgrounds and pavilions. Best for families combining beach time with naturalist-led nature programming.
